We are happy to inform you that FINGODAP which is a network of over 500 NGOs working in the area of drug demand reduction is organizing the
Sixth National Conference in partnership with M/o Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), Govt. Of India & National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Govt. Of India to strengthen and mainstream comprehensive programming for people who use drugs in India.
The conference will bring together NGOs across the country, working in the area of Drug Demand Reduction (prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and social re-integration of drug dependents) and Targeted Intervention (TI) working with IDUs supported by NACO for the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
The conference is scheduled to take place from
28th – 30th October 2011, Punjab University, Chandigarh. It will be inaugurated by
Sri Mukul Wasnik, Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE).
This year, as per Hon’ble Minister’s concern for
finalizing the Drug Policy, we have planned a stakeholder session for their contributions to improve upon the Policy.
Participation is expected from Civil Society, NGO sector, Government/Ministry and Unilateral & multilateral funding Agencies. It is important that all stakeholders come together to partner & establish interface so as to ensure better quality services.

Venue of the conference:
Auditorium, University of Punjab, Chandigarh.
Date of arrival at Chandigarh: 27th Oct evening or morning of 28th October 2011
After arrival in Chandigarh: Please contact Information Counters outside Platform No. 1, Chandigarh Railway station or Bus stand, Chandigarh. The Information Counter will be set up on 27th October and it will be continue till the evening of 28th October 2011. OR reach SPYM Drug De-addiction centre, UT Press Building, Sec 18, Chandigarh, Ph: 0172 2703872.
Accommodation: has been arranged on double sharing basis. However, if you require a single room then we could book the room and you will have to pay extra charge directly to hotel. The accommodation for the participant will be available from 27th October–till 30th Oct 2011.
Travel: FINGODAP will provide reimbursement to participant for to & fro travel by sleeper class reservation only. Please make your return reservation accordingly and keep a Photostat copy of your ticket.
How to reach Chandigarh: - Chandigarh is well connected by Train, Air & Bus route. Participants may travel by train from South, East or North East India. Direct train could be arranged. Alternatively, you may come to Delhi and take Shatabdi or Jan Shatabdi for Chandigarh. Busses are also available to Chandigarh every half hour.
Climate: End of October & beginning of November is a pleasant period with temperature ranging from 23-26 degree Celsius. Kindly bring light sweater / jacket, if required.
Sight-seeing: Chandigarh is situated on Shivalik Himalaya. If interested, you may plan a trip to Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Jammu & Kashmir or Amritsar. We can only facilitate local logistics however travel and accommodation have to be borne directly by the participant.
Short Paper presentation:- We encourage interested participants to prepare a short paper presentation on best practices by your organization based on the agenda. Please email a short synopsis of your paper to
